THE GG EXPRESS: SPEED AND VOLUME TO IMPROVE EXXARO’S EXPORT CAPACITY

Our two existing load out stations at Grootegeluk have a combined loading capacity of about 3.5 Mt/annum. The Semisoft Coking Coal Load Out Station (SSCC LOS), which loads coking coal from GG1 and GG6 products beds, loads approximately 2.5 Mt/annum. The D8 load out station (D8 LOS) loads around 1Mt/annum.

To increase our loading capacity, the D8 LOS will be replaced by a new, R1.3-billion rapid load out station that can load an impressive 12 Mt/annum. The Grootegeluk Rapid Load Out Station (GGRLOS), which has an 84-ton weigh flask, will enable us to load 200 wagon trains within three to four hours, for transportation to our main customers & The export product will be railed to Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT).

Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2019, and will include a rail siding and shunt yard, a rapid load out station system, a transfer tower between the rail load out station feed conveyor and the collecting conveyor, as well as a coal silo and purge system. Full production will be achieved about six months after handover.

Key milestones include:

  • Turnout Installation in yard gather-area completed
  • Silo mass concrete for foundation poured and sliding completed
  • BMH SMPP and EC&I contracts awarded and site established
  • Detail design and Early Works construction completed.
